We are not just growing tubers, we are growing summer dreams
Hello!!! We are Tom and Shelley Johnson, owners of a small Dahlia farm in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The farm is located on a bluff overlooking Semiahmoo Bay and the Strait of Georgia with optimal growing weather for Dahlias. Temperatures and humidity here at Bay Blooms usually remain in that ‘just-right’ zone. After a career in the stressful Aerospace industry, Shelley Retired and began to take advantage of her passion, focus and energy in gardening flowers of all types, but Dahlia’s are her most coveted and loved of all.
As of right now, we grow about 300 PLUS varieties of Dahlias and have overt 1,000 plants! Our tubers are carefully divided and stored through the winter for Spring Shipping. Each spring lots of organic matter is mixed into our sandy loam soil, of which we wholeheartedly believe is the key to yielding beautiful, healthy plants. Most pest control is done through a systemic, granule, preventative fertilizer planted with each tuber – thus we rarely use any sprays. We have worked hard to have been disease free by utilizing techniques such as instrument cleaning and gloves when handling the tubers and/or plants.
Dahlias are not just a flower, but a gardener’s dream. We take your gardening dreams seriously and work as hard as possible to make them a happy, joyful reality in your life.
